I have a community blog at thelazy.info . All things are working except the category. When you click on any category it gives 404 Not found error. I tried searching out myself but couldn't come up with a plausible relation. Can anybody guess how can I go with this error.

  • If you remove all categories and create a new one called "foo", what does happen?

    @w2lame: I see that you have /abhishek/ as an author archive? This could conflict with your categories if you also want them without a prefix, like /life/. WordPress tries to search for an author called life, doesn't find one, and gives a 404. Can you update your question with more information about your rewrite rules? (Use @Jan when you reply so I get a notification)

  • @jan-fabry I have updated the question with my .htaccess rules. And for removing the conflicts.. i have converted /%category%/ to /tag/%category%/

  • @w2lame: I re-visited your site, and it seems to work now? The category and author archives now have different bases? If this is the case, you can write your own answer of what you did and accept it so others know how you did it. Or if it was my comment, I'll convert it to an answer so you can mark that.

In Permalink Settings I would try changing Category base to "category" and see if thelazy.info/category/behavior/ works or not.

update your permalinks structure, make sure ur htaccess file is writable.

Are the categories you're looking for assigned only to custom post types? This response isn't an answer, but I am having the same issue when the category is assigned to a custom post type so I thought it might be the same thing: Categories assigned to custom post type not found.

Hopefully, you figure it out.
