I need to change the URL of an existing website from www.site.it/wordpress
to www.site.it
. I searched on the Internet and followed the following steps:
- I downloaded the
index.php
and.htaccess
files; - I modified the index.php by adding
require DIR . '/wordpress/wp-blog-header.php';
(some guides include /wordpress/, others don't. I tried both and it works for me with /wordpress/); - I uploaded the two files to the public-html folder;
- Then I changed the website URL within WordPress.
Everything works except the homepage, which continues to redirect me to www.site.it/wordpress.
Can someone help me?
Ty
Edit: I tried clearing the cache, accessing from incognito mode, and using another device. I also tried checking the permalinks, and normally (so with the site ending in /wordpress/) it looks like this:
And if I delete /wordpress/, it looks like this:
All the pages on the website work, except for the home page. If I keep /wordpress in the URL, it works, but if I try to remove it, it automatically redirects to site.it/wordpress, showing a 404 page.
Then I checked how the permalink works within the home page in WordPress, and it works correctly. When /wordpress is present, it is also in the permalink. When I remove it, it is also removed from the permalink.
Edit:
this is the index.php
file
<?php
/**
* Front to the WordPress application. This file doesn't do anything, but loads
* wp-blog-header.php which does and tells WordPress to load the theme.
*
* @package WordPress
*/
/**
* Tells WordPress to load the WordPress theme and output it.
*
* @var bool
*/
define( 'WP_USE_THEMES', true );
/** Loads the WordPress Environment and Template */
require __DIR__ . '/wp-blog-header.php';
this is the .htaccess
file
