How to upload multiple images on frontend to ACF gallery using update_field

Question

I'm trying to save images submitted on a frontend form in a way that they are accessible via the ACF backend.

In how to upload an image on ACF with update_field on wordpress, someone provided a solution for a single image upload (and consequently a single ACF image field). I thought it should be pretty easy extending this to a multi image upload (and a ACF gallery field), but I get an error I can't track down: Cannot redeclare wp_crop_image() in /../travel/wp-admin/includes/image.php on line 25

in functions.php

Argh..easy to fix:

instead of

include( ABSPATH . 'wp-admin/includes/image.php' );

use

require_once( ABSPATH . 'wp-admin/includes/image.php' );
