BB-Code-like mechanism by which strings enclosed in square brackets can serve as shorthand for longer and more complicated strings. These strings are processed by callback handlers, usually on page load, which replace the bracket enclosed string with the output from the callback handler.

Running Filter or Shortcode Before Query Prevents Excerpt from Showing
Here I'll just post the shortcode:

echo 'Episode ' . … The exact same occurs were I to use a filter that performed the same duty as the shortcode.
Does anyone have any idea why the_excerpt fails to display if called after this shortcode? …
