I need to setup a community on a wordpress based website. I'm taking in consideration buddypress but it will not have a great documentation about the api. I need to give the users the simple ability to create an account and to choice between two type of account. Based on that choice I want to display additional fields during the registration process.

Also I want to avoid the automatic activation of the user accounts after registration, I need that each account is approved from site moderators. I saw that buddypress give the ability to add extra fields to the registration form, is there any way to hide/show some fields if the user select an account type instead of the other option available?

How I can prevent automatic activation email from wordpress and send it only after that a moderator have approved an account? Any filter or action hook can be used for this, can anyone suggest me the correct way please?
