I have a situation where the featured image is included manually in the wordpress posts, and WP automatically includes the featured image on rss feeds, so I end up with two instances of the featured image in the rss feeds for each post.

I'd like to remove the automated featured image. I've looked up some ways to do this, it looks like:

add_action('init', function() {
    remove_filter(‘the_content’, ‘featureimage_for_feeds’);

is a recommended solution, but when I add that to functions.php (in my child theme) it has no effect.

I also tried just:

remove_filter(‘the_content’, ‘featureimage_for_feeds’);

by itself, but same response, no change. (I've taken steps to avoid the cache, so I do know for sure it's not changing)

This is with WP 5.3.2

With that not working, do you have any suggestions on removing the featured image short of setting up a whole new rss template?
