I have a question about videos in WordPress. Is it possible to let my users upload videos and show the preview in their profiles? Not have a video post page, just the user can see a preview in low quality while the original file is sending to agencies for selling.

Is it possible? How can I create a plugin with this functionality?

It is very possible to upload a video, quite trivial, search around the exchange.

The problem is with the thumbnail. If you want the thumbnails to be automatically rendered by your server, unless you're able to install ffmpeg or similar server plugins, you won't be able to.

What you can do, instead, is, when users upload a video, allow them to also upload a thumbnail and save it in a post.

As per @mmm 's comment, use ACF if you think you need advanced fields with sanitization and such.

  • Thanks, I searched for info before posting, I understand that it is possible to upload videos. I already create the profiles and page with Ultimate Member, what i need is that the user upload a video in a profile tab and then the video show up in the videos tab for revision... I have ffmpeg in my server. Thanks for you answer, I will keep searching... – San Martín Figueroa Pablo Jul 18 '18 at 18:04
  • @SanMartínFigueroaPablo Then you're on your way to go. Sorry, ffmpeg is not my expertise, but there are hundreds of tutorials out there, for sure. – coolpasta Jul 18 '18 at 22:50
