I add a new network, set the domain to a new domain, different from the main domain, and set the path on that domain to /weblog/. Then when I go to my new domain, in my case a.lvh.me/weblog I get a WP 404 page with no images, css, etc. AFAIK, Multinetwork will only work with domains and subdomains, not subdirectories. If you do have this working, I'd love a step-by-step.
Jan 23, 2012 at 22:02 | comment | added | Chip Bennett | @MatthewBoynes the root network needs to be subdomain, and then the sub-networks can be subdirectory.

Were you successfully able to setup a Multisite subdirectory install (note, not a subdomain install), then use the Multi-network plugin to add a new network at, say, a.example.com, then add a site to that network at a subdirectory of a.example.com (e.g. a.example.com/weblog/ -- note you can't use the term blog as its protected)?
Jan 23, 2012 at 21:53 | comment | added | Chip Bennett | WordPress in't "used as a CMS". WordPress is a CMS, out of the box. If you're already using blog posts, then yes: you're using blogs already. Again: can you edit your question, to better, and in more detail, explain what you currently have, and what you want to do differently? Because I'm terribly confused why you already have blog posts, but still want to add a blog.
Jan 23, 2012 at 21:50 | comment | added | Philip Seyfi | I use WordPress as a CMS. The network currently consists of several sites on subdomains - a.ex.co, b.ex.com, etc. - each using a child-theme of my-theme. These sites are not blogs, but use WP posts, pages, etc. to organize content. I now want to add blogs using child-themes of second-theme, accessible at /blog of each of the subdomain sites.
Jan 23, 2012 at 21:45 | comment | added | Chip Bennett | "...I need the blogs to use a completely different theme from the subdomain websites..." -- why would that pose a problem? Each subdomain site defines its own Theme already.
Jan 23, 2012 at 21:44 | comment | added | Chip Bennett | "...with their own theme, posts, pages, and other content." -- Wait: so you're saying that your current subdomain sites already have blogs? If so, can you please clarify your question to better reflect what you have, and what you want?
Jan 23, 2012 at 21:43 | comment | added | Philip Seyfi | The reason why the second option may not be the ideal solution is that I need the blogs to use a completely different theme from the subdomain websites. i.e., a.example.com would use one theme, and a.example.com would use a completely different theme.
