So I got your notification "for free", but you would not get one for this message if I did not include you. There is a full explanation on the general meta site of the Stack Exchange network.
Nov 5, 2010 at 18:35 comment added Storm Thanks a bunch Jan. I now think I understand the whole package. I will have to fiddle a bit with it all to understand it fully but you have been a great help! Answer accepted =) btw thanks for the @ note. But as I'm commenting on your answer now, you will still get an alert right?

Nov 5, 2010 at 8:29 comment added Jan Fabry @Storm: I expanded my answer with wp_localize_script(), which you can use to send configuration data from the server-side to the browser. (Small tip: If you add @ to a username, that person will get a notification of your reply. So @Mike: I updated the title would make sure he sees your comment)

Added examples of wp_localize_script and wp_enqueue_script
Nov 4, 2010 at 23:17 comment added Storm great answer. This was What i was wondering, and i seem to have gotten it to work. I can now access /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php?action=[action] and get a json result. My problem now is where to put the js to do the ajax call. Since I need to put echo admin_url('admin-ajax.php'); as the url, i can't put it in my plugins js file. So how would i go about enqueueing it? I dont just want to print the script into the middle of a page.
