comment Advanced search form with filters for custom taxonomies and custom fields
this doesn't take into account post relationships, that being the difficult part of my problem. It's way easier to filter posts by taxonomy, I need to filter them buy the taxonomy (or custom field) of a related post.

It doesn't suit the approach that I need (with specific filters), but it's a very interesting plugin, it looks like a great replacement for the default search function, thanks very much for pointing it out.

comment Can custom taxonomies items have attached properties?
Problem is? (how) can you then search for venues? - display all events that take place in a certain venue, like you could do with a taxonomy term (tags/categories)?

The coordinates wouldn't be attached to the event, they would be attached to the venue - which is assigned to the event, the venue itself would have different properties - like website and coordinates, a description etc

comment Filtering categories in the permalink structure
works for me, thanks - it would be even awesomer to be able to specify the parent category (by name or ID) the permalink should primarily listen to. Your script works as needed for posts that are only in the 'places' category branch - but if the post is in other root categories, it sometimes uses those instead
