comment How would I use pre_get_posts to query another site for posts in my multisite network?
@JohanNordström You've saved me some time investigating the same there. I'll do something similar and fallback on switch_to_blog with some cacheing to avoid too many queries. Thanks for getting back with that so swiftly!

Did you ever get this working? I'm coming up against exactly the same situation now

comment How can I get the first 50% of all posts (within a custom post type)?
Absolutely spot on. Thanks @birgire! (just incase anyone else is wondering: you can use the 'offset' property for the second query to start where the first list leaves off).

comment How do I override part of the main loop in my child theme?
Yeh, but you can still leave the main loop intact if you don't want to override it. Then just set up a template with loop for pulling portfolio posts only, and use this on a 'Home' page. That way if you want to use the main loop later (for a more complete blog, not just porfolio), it's still there. edits: grammar.

not got any answer for you here, but I had a look at the site and it seems pretty handy! Any chance you've got alphabetical organisation of the functions on the roadmap there?

comment Custom query does not find pages
grand. thanks for that! i didn't realise there was a specific difference between the two methods of querying there. Anywho. This worked like a charm and I've tidied up all my other queries accordingly. Tanks.

comment Is there an easy way to flag posts in the admin area?
Brilliant. This plugin is exactly what I needed. Custom statuses plus a whole load of other editorial goodness. Thank you very much @Brady!

comment Is there an easy way to flag posts in the admin area?
Yeh, that's the thing. I need a double-check on the content ideally, one more over and above wordpress as standard. At first glance this plugin looks like it could well help! I'm going to have a dive in there now, thanks.

comment Query two taxonomies via URL or link?
I've edited the question some, and realise I could do it with GET variable, although I would rather a nice URL structure if possible. Or rather: if there is a simple Wordpress way to query across taxonomies, that would be a good thing to know. Thanks Rarst!

comment My class function is not seeing GET url paramaters
I've figured it, but I can't post my answer yet! basically I forgot to declare $wp_query as a global variable to use the filters within my class. DOH. I'll post code when I'm allowed.

Can't believe I didn't know about the debug bar. Very handy.

Thanks. That's a great start. I'd never run across the WSOD before so this should get me on the right track to writing some more robust code!

comment When to use Wordpress loop or Foreach loop?
Ahhhaa. I was going to edit it and ask again, but actually it is essentially a question of 'get_posts' vs query_posts. Ha. Oops. Sorry for the reask then :) And thanks for the swift answer and link!

comment How do I pass an argument to my custom walker?
Hey Rarst.I've tried implementing that, but I keep getting errors. I've updated my code, and included the template call to the walker function. Am I missing something?

comment Add url from Custom Field as 'Featured Image'. Code not working
Either way, this should do what I need at the moment, so many thanks for the responses. If I figure out how to combine Get the Image with WP auto-image resizing for thumbnails etc I'll post back on here! Thanks @helgatheviking!

Aha. Okay. I've read around this a bit more, and Get the Image doesn't set the 'featured image' but you can use it to make a featured image in an alternate manner! Which, depending on your view of how many DB queries you want to have etc... might be a better way of doing things.

No worries! So as far as you can see the code looks like it should work? I mean... no glaring errors?

I had a look at Get the Image, it let's you pull images from custom fields. But it doesn't store them or set them as featured (as far as I can see). Ideally I'd like to import all the main images for each post, and attach them using the normal WP media library, then i can get them resized etc automagically as I need and they are available to most plugins
