comment Is it safe to use PUT and DELETE requests
Not really a WordPress question. I mean, you're building a WordPress plugin yes, but is this question better suited to a server-specific site like ServerFault?

comment Can i use php sql functions instead of $wpdb?
The schema doesn't change between every version, but there's no guarantee that it's a static thing. It often changes to avail optimization, add new features, or merely to remove chunks of the DB that are no longer needed.

comment Are transients private or public?
If you need help with WP_Session, I recommend starting a thread on the WordPress support forums since my answer here doesn't deal with the plugin itself, and this is likely going to be a much longer conversation.

comment Are transients private or public?
You're describing something more like $_SESSION, which WordPress doesn't support. Instead, see my answer below. Or perhaps take a look at the WP_Session project on GitHub.

comment jquery does't work
@JPollock A better edit would be to break the JS into a separate file and enqueue it with in_footer set to true. Don't ever hook script/style includes to wp_footer.

comment Why Can't PHPUnit UnitTest My Wordpress Website
What does your test look like? The issue here is that the wp() function is requiring certain global variables which, apparently, haven't been set up yet. If I can see your setup/teardown/test methods I might be able to help.

comment Is get_option function cached?
Also, options that aren't auto-loaded will be cached after the first time you look them up. See my answer for a full description.

comment Better handling of WP-CRON server load abuse
Be careful how you qualify "fire up wp-cron.php." Just because the file is called doesn't mean cron is running. The check to see whether or not cron jobs should run is inside wp-cron.php. Making a request to that file will check the timeout, then either proceed or exit.

Yes. Place that definition in wp-config.php and keep in mind it's in seconds.

comment Infinite loop problem with the WordPress MU Domain Mapping plug-in
I did, but I've since removed it since both WordPress, MU Domain Mapping, and WordPress SEO have gone through several versions since then and my documentation no longer applies. If you're still having issues, feel free to ask a new question.

comment Remove “Published On” inside wp-admin
Just be forewarned that adding the hook to admin_head-post-new.php means writers cannot schedule posts, either. This means any post must be published immediately and not at a future date.

comment PHP code rendered in HTML
OK, let me explain. That URL (/category/news) is passed to WordPress' index.php. WordPress will include() files to generate the page, including category-news.php. If the content of the file is printing to the page, then you have something else happening on the server. Perhaps an encoding issue, another PHP file that's printing output rather than running it, etc. But there are no HTML comments here, and unless you're doing something else on the site there's no way that URL would produce that output on a standard installation.

comment How can I hide the sidebar from a specific post?
Actually, that's what that code would do. If you're viewing a single post with that slug, do nothing. Otherwise (i.e. all posts) show the sidebar.
