@webtoure let's see what ialocin says... both of your answers would deserve to be selected!

@webtoure well, as I said, the original problem was really in /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/php5.conf. Therefore your answer deserves to be selected. There were different problems afterwards addressed by ialocin. I would put it this way: your answer solved the original question, ialocin helped me the best. I am grateful for all helpful posts here!

@webtoure why don't you upvote it, then ;-) the original problem was in /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/ (just as you suggested). So I really made a mistake accepting Dale Allens answer...

In fact, php was installed and activated, however it was not enabled for the user directories. This can be done in /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/php5.conf.

@webtoure Sorry for the confusion I caused! In fact your answer was most helpful ialocin. But the cause of all the troubles in the very first place was, that php was not activated for the user directories. Dale Allen therefore was closest. I supposed that you wouldn't care about the points as you have so many - however, if you do, I will happily accept your answer as it was so helpful.

php is definitely installed. However, obviously the file does not get parsed. I try to find out why...

hm, this is my private server - I am my own host ... can you explain your assumption?

I think this is a misconception. The old domain was yeara.net/odysseus just as the new domain (also yeara.net/odysseus). As I moved the domain (yeara.net) to the new server, I cannot reach the old server at this address anymore. speendo.cassiopeia.uberspace.de/odysseus is the address, the host of the old server provides.

@kaiser right - one could also lock the whole wp-admin folder like this (or is that a bad idea?) - maybe this is even more secure... Would you like to write an answer yourself?

thank you for the warning, but in fact disabling posts, comments and the backend is probably one of the best ways to prevent hacks. Requiring ftp access is something every page needed, when the internet was still static ;-)
