comment Ajax resetting my global variable
I did consider that, but then I was searching for a non-DB option because my real-scenario is much more time-expensive than the example I added above (simply to illustrate the problem). +1 for the answer, but I'll continue to search for a non-DB method ... I tried putting my variable in wp-config.php, also doesn't work by the way.

Seems like there's no easy way to do that. Check this link for a possible solution: wordpress.org/support/topic/…

You already went through this issue wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/116884/…. The difference is you want a radio button instead of writing a custom field value, consider using the Advanced Custom Fields plugin for this case.

@Sidh Please edit your initial question by posting the entire code from index.php. The theme you are using is using get_template_part(), which means it's loading another php file into this one. To know which file it is loading, we have to know what's in the variable $layout, which should be defined in the index.php file before this loop.

@timbo-kz It's fine, just making sure I understood you well. I added the WP_Query documentation to the answer if you want to know how to loop the custom post types in your page template.

It's not a separate blog, it's just the Demos page from css-tricks.com. "Independent" is a bit vague here.

In your Editor, check for home.php, if it doesn't exist, check for index.php.
