Tp include your own css, just copy the relevant bits into the 'custom.css' option within the admin. Much easier than working out how to include the css in the header file. The emphasis being on 'relevant css'. If you copy all your site's css, it will mess with the theme.

The only alternative way I can think of doing this other than including the header and footer is to totally edit the wordpress css however that will take even longer and the idea of that will put me off even bothering with this :) Every but of info I can find (even on the Wordpress codex) all seems to relate to incorporating your own website into Wordpress (hence using the Wordpress header on my website) but I want to do the complete opposite. I started out with this thinking it wouldn't be too difficult to do!!

Ok so lets say my site was google you mean include( google.co.uk/includes/header.php ) and not <?php include( google.co.uk/includes/header.php )?> The first one doesn't look right and the second is wrong according to Dreamweaver, it doesn't like it.

I have added the fill codf of the header.php file from the wordpress header. Can you advise how I can replace this with my own website include. You mention simply replacing it but I can't simply remove all the code and add my onw one line path to the website header?

Ok so replace all of the header.php of wordpress header to 'include (http:/www.mysiteheader.php)' then for wordpress footer change all of the code to 'include (http:/www.mysitefooter.php)'?

Sorry for not being clearer. I think you may have answered my question the other way round. I dont want to pick up my wordpress blog header on my website, I do however want to pick up my website header on my wordpress blog which seems to be the opposite of your explanation. Like I say sorry if I didnt explain properly. My website is php and uses /includes files for header, menu and footer. The current header, menu and footer on the wordpress blog are very dull so I want to use my website header, menu and footer from the website on my blog.

Ok so where the current 'get footer' picks up the wordpress header, how will it know to pick up my own? Would I replace the whole header.php with my own header?

Thanks for the reply but I'm not sure where this would go. Do you mean in the (non Wordpress) website header? Sorry to sound simple, I have been developing sites for a while now but have only recently got involved with Wordpress. It is great but difficult to get used to.

There are no errors, in terms of validation the only issue refers to an iframe with inline styling as clearly it is more recommended to use css nowadays but removing that doesn't fix anything. Cache has been cleared multiple times in various browsers and all plugins have been disabled and enabled one by one. For me the easiest way to fix things like this would be to access the pages directly and not mess around with this admin area but it seems I can't even do that with a wordpress site. I think Wordpress is actually that basic that it's difficult!

The page is still using the newport theme, no doubt about that. as for the code, I'm not sure what you want to see. The page content code doesn't include the banner. The admin only shows the code of the content itself (everything underneath the banner) so I guess there is a template header to display the banner however the 'header.php' file in the ftp doesn't give anyything away, it just refers to a database.

Really, to tell you what the code was before would be pointless, if you copy and paste an image into Wordpress (as the previous person managing the site had done) you get around 80 lines of gobbledygook code, it isnt valid in any way. An example would be: <img=rerererksdlsdjkjsdjsdksdksdkskjsdjsdjsdjsdjsdjsjdsjdsajd etc. etc.
