Not sure what you are asking but, in a nutshell, I don't want uncategorized or any of its children to appear in the permalink. Your solution removes uncategorized, but not its children. Basically want an exclude_tree=1

@Brad, fine but the children of uncategorized will still be displayed. I don't want any multi-level post slugs beyond the highest level category.
