comment upload_mimes filter has no effect
unfortunately, I haven't discovered why the plugin was causing the problem. Their codebase does not even touch the upload_mimes() filter. But if I deactivate it, all is good. BTW, the reason I used the loop was in case WP ever changed their key for 'text/plain'.

Other than specifying the array index rather than searching for it, how is this different from my 2nd attempt (if($ek=array_search($v,$mimes)){...)? I unset the existing array member and then I add my own and return the array. And yet it only works if I turn off BackUpWordPress.

comment add button to post edit page when post_status=publish
awesome! So I've got my button appearing only on my custom post and only when the post is published and doesn't have a value for 'already_done'. I've written and tested my service_call function. The only thing I'm still not sure of is what hook service_call() should be attached to.

comment editing usermeta when field is an array
ah! I thought I didn't need $single since the data was already an array. But I guess I ended up with array(0=>$mydataarr).

I think there is a misunderstanding. The code you mark as incorrect was to fix the initial change I had made which produced a:2:{i:0;a:15:{ ....}s:12:"loomsong_del";s:5:"email";}. Strangely, my initial change was made using code very similar to what you suggest: ` $s2_custom=get_user_meta($u->ID, 'wp_s2member_custom_fields'); $old=$s2_custom; if(!array_key_exists('loomsong_del', $s2_custom)){ $s2_custom['loomsong_del']='email'; update_user_meta($u->ID, 'wp_s2member_custom_fields', $s2_custom); }`

@kaiser: I've added the link to s2member, but in this case I think it likely that the particular plugin is immaterial.

comment get attachments for all posts of particular post type
thanks for this. I thought this might be the direction to go, but WP seems to discourage direct "touching" and I didn't want to set myself up for unfortunate side effects.
