This works brilliantly! Thanks a bundle! I put this in my theme's functions.php and all appears to work as desired.

I am self-hosting, PHP version 5.4 on Amazon EC2 Debian. PHP 5.4.35-0+deb7u2 (cli) (built: Nov 19 2014 07:56:24) Copyright (c) 1997-2014 The PHP Group Zend Engine v2.4.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2014 Zend Technologies However, in any event, the AJAX plugin for paginating / slide-showing is intercepting the content and re-rendering it. I need to figure out where that is occurring, before the add_filter solution might work, I'm afraid.

The solution in the linked question throws a parse error: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '[', expecting ')' in /example.com/wp-content/themes/example/functions.php on line 2223

I see, well to answer your question directly, it was put on hold because I was using commercial plugins and extensions, and this time I am not. New plugin, default theme. If the question was put on hold for promoting 3rd party plugins than I figured I should ask in a more generic way.

My last question was banned and I didn't get an answer?

Looks like you're correct - it ships with the theme, thought it was free. It isn't.

The question is less about the third-party extensions mentioned and those extensions are meant only to provide a context. I've removed the reference to the theme. The reference to the slider remains because the fact that it renders itself within the_content() makes it a critical element to the question.

I don't want to affect Wordpress' underlying search system - which I read on here is a bad idea - I want to be able to pass the same value to an external API that requires 'x'. However, if I can change Wordpress' 's' query string parameter, and that's simple, I'm more than willing.

comment Remove Featured Image from posts in specific category?
There isn't the_post_thumbnail in this file, though. The whole post is like this, in a while loop: get_template_part( 'content', get_post_format() );

comment Image format not using single-image.php
I'm actually trying to wrap the image in a custom tag, and wrap that custom tagged image in some other custom divs. The post-type is image (post format, post type whatever). The post will only contain a title and an image.

comment How can I add a class to a single menu item?
and then, how do I go about wrapping the drop-items? the drop down items are the names of categories, and in the nav_menu, are grouped (visually) below the categories menu. In order for them to match this template exactly, they need to be wrapped inside a <div> and their own separate <ul>.

I'm not seeing how to make adjustments on an individual basis. It seems like all the examples I'm looking at are affecting all element nodes of the menu equally. Any good resource to affect specific menu items?

Seems powerful. Is it possible to create an entire drop down menu in this way? The drop-down I'm using requires a nested <ul>
