comment Explanation of update_post_(meta/term)_cache
@Howdy_McGee Object cache and post object are not related. So wp_reset_postdata() do nothing in the regard of object cache. wp_reset_postdata() only reset global post object, that is yet another global variable, that is never cached... Transients are an hybrid thing: when you have some persistent cache plugin installed, transient use that, but if you have no persistent cache plugin, then transients use database.

comment How can I contact a function inside a plugin's class?
The problem you can't access $this ouside of the class. This wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/137688/… answer can solve the problem, but it's not very future proof, because in future versions of WP things will change in that regard. But for now...

This code looks fine. Maybe post the code that you use to register the shortcode and also the full shortcode handler.

comment Legacy Audio Shortcode
@Celso I fixed the code using empty instead of isset and simplified it. Now should work and be easy to understand... Why do you think that to use wp_audio_shortcode_override is easier? I think it is not, in fact you have problem using it ;) Reason is that from wp_audio_shortcode_override you can't just change arguments, but you need to render the shortcode. Moreover, my code works for both your legacy shortcode and for proper formatted shortcodes, this gives you chance to use the proper formatted shortcode from now.

comment Any advantage of using wp_scripts and is_IE when enqueuing scripts
@BryanWillis wp_enqueue_scripts is the standard hook to enqueue assets. When wp_print_scripts fires, all the scripts should be already enqueued and other plugins may assume that. For example take github.com/roots/soil. One of its modules move all the scripts to footer. To do that, it completely removes wp_print_scripts action, assuming all the scripts are enqueued with wp_enqueue_scripts. Your code will be incompatible with that plugin. So, expecially if you plan to share / sell your code, always use standard hooks to improve compatibility.

comment Add image size where largest possible proportional size is generated
The args in constructor are just default. You can pass any ratio you want, default are used only if you don't pass anything
