comment Is it possible to remove the “standard” post format?
I disagree. I'm using it just fine. I have no problem with the intentions of the feature at all. The problem I see is that the implementation doesn't realize that once other formats are enabled, the Standard format becomes optional. (As in it opens up the use case that the format will not be desired for a given project. Obviously the devs don't think it's optional. I fully realize this is unlikely to change. It's not my first philosophical difference with WordPress.)

Nice. This seems the most "proper" if not exactly simple approach. Given that enabling formats inherently makes the use of Standard optional, it seems there should just be a way to directly address and remove it if not desired. Feature request, I guess.

Because if something ends up in that format, the templating will come out wrong(to varying degree depending how customized the other formats are), and there's no good way to determine that without visiting every single post and just knowing it's supposed to be in some other format. There's also no reason to template standard at all(in my case, it will never be used; yes, really). If I did it may still not be possible for the fallback to look okay, and as I said it would just make the discovery problem above even worse because now the things in standard won't look as obviously wrong.

No. This is exactly the problem. Enabling formats lets you add aside, quote, etc. beyond standard posts, but there's no way to not have standard posts at all, even though they're now optional. It's just not addressable and you're stuck with it.

-1 Read the question. The point is specifically to minimize ads. Your opinion that ads should be maximized is irrelevant.

WordPress doesn't do any traffic tracking itself. You should edit your question to include what stats package(s) you're using, as that's going to determine what data is available and how/whether it can be used. Also, the question flips back and forth between a post getting high traffic and the whole site getting high traffic. You might want to clarify which you're actually asking about.
