comment Search not working. Appending a “<?” to the search
I'm looking into using z-index to have the search box floating on top of the center of the footer since PHP isn't allowed in there.

I did, though when I removed it and inserted just the form code, the form displays in the footer. Any ideas? I'll keep researching in the meantime. Thanks for your help so far.

I just copied and pasted, I don't know how they showed up as curly quotes.

Hi toscho, thanks for the quick reply. I added your code to functions.php and tried t5_search_form(); 2 ways: embedded in php tags, eg <?php t5_search_form(); ?>, which doesn't show the search box on screen; and just putting t5_search_form(); in my search div in my footer text widget. That just outputs the text t5_search_form(); to the screen. I know i'm missing something very fundamental from my understanding.

I figured it out, and it was something fundamental. I replaced all of the div tags that referenced box3/custom fields with references to the loop: <?php if(have_posts()):?><?php while(have_posts()):the_post();?> <?php the_content();?> <?php endwhile;?> <?php endif;?>

Nothing has worked so far. I'm trying to enter an example of a typical custom field driven page, and a page template based off of it that I modified, but the there's too many characters in the file to include it here.

I've tried leaving in the div's that block off areas of the page, eg: header, footer, content, sidebar, but stripping out the sections that bring in the content from the custom fields. When I create a 'blank template' that has all of the areas on the page, but with the custom field references stripped out, it results in a blank content area, even though i've entered content in the visual editor.

Thanks so much Tom, this gives me a ton of reading on WP-Query to follow up on. I'm not sure if your code covers for this (and perhaps I wasn't clear), the new posts should bump the previous post and the posts before that to the right and/or down to the next row (if a post is the last item in a row). In effect moving steadily down the page, like Space Invaders. :)

Hi Derk, the page is using custom fields to order the elements within the page. So currently it looks like: custom fields: image, image, image, text, text, text, link. VERY tedious to update.
