I'm a professional PHP programmer by day and occasional hacker by night. I like Propel, Symfony 1.x and Zend Framework, and have an interest in P2P technologies (for stuff other than file-sharing, although that's good too). I am planning on winning the lottery so I can do the night stuff during the day.

I've written about how to ask questions on StackOverflow - hope someone finds it useful.

Ah, great, thanks toscho! I rather preferred my namespace approach, so I was rather hoping not to have to do something non-optimal. I saw the WP PHP stats linked from another question here - that was what prompted me to think that 5.3 would be a no-go. (I'll keep my library internal to each plugin in this case, but the suggestion about having a separate plugin is an interesting one - I'll read up).

comment WordPress PHP version requirements
@Mark, are there any stats on minimum PHP requirements that you're aware of? 5.3+ would greatly help me out, but since the library I am working on is for plugin developers, my decision to move to 5.3 would affect them too.

comment Is it possible to show custom comment metadata in the admin panel?
Hi there, great answer. Would you fix the URL to pmg.co? It doesn't lead to the article that it should (just a blank page).

comment Should I use Wordpress to skin a database website?
OP: yeah, agreed. If the theme is the only draw for WP, it'd be only a small amount of work to do something similar in a framework's layout. You could farm this out to another developer, it should only take them a few hours to a day, depending on complexity.

(Just so you know, although you can glean bits of help for discursive questions like this in the comments, since there is not a definitive answer, they will usually be closed. It's not that it's not a good question, it's just not a good fit for the site).

If your site is CMS heavy (for example you want the full content management or blogging functionality) then WP will save you a lot of work. However, if you think your project will be development-heavy, then WP isn't particularly elegant in its internal approach, and you're better off with a framework. That would be Symfony2, Zend, CodeIgniter etc.

comment feedburner plugin for WP 3.5
@Nicholas - good effort, +1. OP, can you downgrade to the previous WP version? Not ideal, but at least you know everything works.

comment feedburner plugin for WP 3.5
At a guess, the downvotes are as a result of the question not demonstrating prior effort, as @Nicholas says. "Stops working" isn't specific either - do you get errors? Anything in your PHP logs? etc.
