Thanks, Sri! But in that case, why create a user at all? My justification for having an actual login would be that it would persist across the many different pages.

I would, but wouldn't this mean accessing the files on a post-by-post basis (instead of globally)? Additionally, my client wants to track downloads which is fairly easy to do by tracking logins.

@vancoder simplicity, mainly, since Projects will be organized the same way as Posts. If I used a custom taxonomy it would be with the same names and preferably slugs.
