Programming and IT for the office, which includes development of our sites and client sites, as well as the upkeep of ours. Mostly I write PHP but I've put together a few OpenOffice macros working as well. I keep our office network operating and deal with other general hardware issues.

I've been working with WordPress since about 1.5 or so, but building commercially since only about 2.9.

Sorry, is this an answer? If so, please elaborate.

I don't see where the docs say that @jdp, and besides, 'hierarchical' => 1 is in the default parameters for the function: core.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/4.1.2/src/wp-includes/…

@jdp : can you explain why "heirarchical" is important?

comment Add value to array in database
As written, there is really nothing specifically WordPress about the question. There are at least a handful of ways to stored data similar to what you are asking but they are all pretty much pure PHP/MySQL. Perhaps you could provide more context to the question or, even better, code?

I assume you wrote this theme? Where is the code? But, it should be pretty easy to spot the problem. Just look for the customizer code you created.

comment How should I use a plugin function as a hook?
Other than the methods discussed in the answer I linked to, this has nothing to do with WordPress. If you understand PHP you know how to do it. Either you are asking for help with a plugin, or with PHP, or you are asking a question that already has an answer. This question can be closed for any of those reasons. Maybe you should consider editing your question so that it is more clear.

comment How should I use a plugin function as a hook?
This may be more of a PHP question than anything, which makes it off topic here, but you can call a plugin function like any other function that occurs in a PHP application. And you can't use any function like a hook. It doesn't work that way. See: wordpress.stackexchange.com/a/103644/21376

comment Do these stats indicate the error in a crashing WordPress site?
It is not going to be possible to sort this out with a picture of stats. You will need to get better debugging information. Please see: wordpress.stackexchange.com/a/95983/21376
