Many thanks to @epilektric for making suggestions. I will check the comment closures. However, PBKAC: the page template was not assigned to the target page in the prod site. Such a dumb error; one I thought I checked. I will now slither off to a dark corner and reprimand myself.

One more clue: I notice that html comments I placed in the page template do not appear in the problem site, but do in the dev site. Paths are correct.

Ah, good eye. I will check that. Also, I notice that firePHP headers are not received by the browser on the site having trouble. The headers are received from the other site. What might cause that?

I doubled checked the php info. Except for the urls and hash codes, the two sites report the same details.

Here is the code snippet. It is long because I am not convinced the problem is in the code, but open to new info so err on the side verbosity. pastebin.com/hF2VCPLv

Yes, the dev database is a clone of the production site, new code was pushed from dev to prod. Happy to do so, but it is long so I will set up a link to the code.

@s_ha_dum, Wyck, brasofilo, Michael, Johannes Pille; I am not familiar with the criteria for closing a question and so don't mean to cross a line here. Nonetheless, I believe this question did evolve into a properly technical thread.

You are correct, Miro is a desktop app. Sorry about the misdirection. Miro is built upon FFMpeg, see ffmpeg.org. FFMpeg is widely used in apps and services, including some of the big PAAS vendors. There are also many examples of scripts you can use on your server to automate the process. Searching on "ffmpeg video converter server" yielded 500K hits. I would not be at all surprised to find a WordPress or Joomla plugin that handles the whole process.

For Miro, I produce Ogg Theora (.ogv) and WebM. I also generate mp4 as a fall back, e.g. Internet Explorer has given me grief. Here the code snippet I use for presentation: http://pastebin.com/8EmJFJGu

One thing to check on streaming video is the allowed file types. The Apache AddType directive allows you to do this. I add video/ogg .ogv, video/mp4 .mp4 .m4v, audio/ogg .ogg .oga, and audio/mp4 .m4a.

Re: upload issue; your choice, of course. OTOH, it is relatively simple to craft a script that accepts the upload path, runs the file through the Miro server app, and generates a post on your page.
