It turns out the filter target was bbp_before_get_breadcrumb_parse_args and no $args is needed in the filter name. I have zero idea why that filter works. I can't find it anywhere in bbpress' functions... I guess I just don't understand fully how these things work yet. If you adjust your anser I'll mark it the solution.

Why was my question down voted? You should at least include a comment as to what the issue is.

This has syntax errors in it that results in a blank page. I'm not sure what syntax errors since I'm still learning this stuff...

comment How to order by post meta name in wp admin?
Merchant name (the bit he wants to sort) isn't a meta key, it's the post title. It's odd that the plugin he uses would disable that function.

this may be a silly question, but have you flushed your rewrites?

Or there's that. Sorry, I modified from one of my existing wordpress sites and must have missed that. Thanks @brasofilo. @CroiOS, try the code again now that I've fixed that typo. (using post_title) instead of merchant_type)

comment Edit Imported advanced Custom Fields from wordpress Dashboard
Are you referring to your field settings? Or the meta content itself? Is the plugin active? The tab should show up in your dashboard navigation once installed...

comment A single category with a specific permalink structure differing from the standard set for the rest of the site
Yes, custom post types will behave the same way any default post or category page do. So archive-cpt.php and single-cpt.php would be how you manage those two pages.

I have a feeling it's something in the plugin conflicting and unfortunately don't think I can help you without digging pretty deep into the code. My guess is that they have disabled it within their custom post type registration. I would contact the plugin support directly for help on this one. If you were doing it manually within functions.php I could help. Sorry :(

Ah-HA! It's very easy to miss those things in php shorthand. Thank you so much for your help. May you be showered in +1s :)

Wow, that's a rather large oversight on the plugin. Well, try the same code above, but replace merchant_type with post_title. What plugin is it?

In login.php or functions.php? I don't see any on either page, but will look harder.

I notice, though, that it still appends title= to the end of the URL. The logout function works, but do you know why it's appending it or if it can be removed?

Fantastic, thank you! I realize you can never hide wordpress completely, but there are certainly simple things you can do to make it less obvious for security reasons. I have a client who has recently been repeatedly hacked by bots, so I have been digging deeper into security precautions and anonymizing wordpress as much as possible.

comment How to move wp-admin login page to another location?
It's absolutely a good idea. Hiding the fact that your site is driven by wordpress discourages people from trying to hack the core structure. If I was trolling for wordpress blogs and www.site.com/wp-login.php and came up with a 404 error I would move on without trying to break through known php exploits. Every bit of security helps make your site that much more bulletproof.

Post titles are supposed to be sortable by default... you shouldn't have to do anything special to make that work. Mind posting your cpt/taxonomy registration code?

exactly what i was thinking. you can define your site URL (without futzing with rewrites) and where your site actually lives.

Will site B need to be edited on it's own as well? Or is it strictly a mirror with no unique administration?

comment Detect if request is coming from wordpress conditional statement
Perfect! I linked it to the old index file with require ('/home/index.html');. I'll put the final code in my question for anyone else with this problem.
