My name is Jan Beck and I am a Berlin-based web designer and developer.

7 years of creating websites for companies, social organisations, artists, shops, bloggers and fellow designers have tought me a broad view of the digital world. I have extensive skills in WordPress and front-end development and like to follow new developments in the web design world.

I'm a strong advocate of user-centric design, progressive enhancement and open technologies. I believe the web should be for everyone.

comment Ideas to connect external database table to wordpress posts as custom field source
As long as you use a custom table, you will need custom MySQL statements to get to your data. There is no way WordPress can know what's outside the standard table structure without custom coding.

comment How can I add page-level settings to a widget?
Why not create a meta box on the edit post screen and test for the meta values whenever you render the widget? If the custom meta values have not been filled, default to the global widget values. Let me know if you need more hints than that.

That dropdown you see on the edit page screen is only available for pages. Possible duplicate question: wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/35221/… stackoverflow.com/questions/5652817/…

comment How to add a div area inside post edit page after Publishing or updating a post or page
Do you want to display an admin notice or a meta box to the user? Depending on what you want these are the codex articles that describe how to do it: codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/add_meta_box codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API/Action_Reference/admin_notices You add these actions inside a function hooked to publish_post: codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API/Action_Reference/publish_post

comment Select image and display from textfield?
Judging from the code your provided you are using a full page reload to set $upload_image1 so in theory you could simply use <img src="<?php echo $upload_image1 ?>" />. However, with the new Media Library it's not common to perform a page reload when selecting an image but rather hook into the "User selects image"-event. Please add more code so we can better understand your situation.

use the `__return_empty_string` function instead of creating a new one that does the same

comment How to make the default Wordpress search return borader results
What you want should already be how WP behaves by default. There is a 'exact' parameter that WP_Query accepts and it is set to "false" if you don't change it. As @s_ha_dum suggests, please let us have a look at your $shopQuery. Perhaps a 3rd party plugin is changing your final SQL-query.

Would have suggested you try jQuery(window).trigger( 'unload.wp-heartbeat' ) but strangely that does nothing. Perhaps you can workout why?

You will need to hook into pre_get_posts, get the list of post IDs of all custom posts with that keyword, then change the original query to include a meta query for the list of post IDs in the meta field. The ACF documentation has an article about it advancedcustomfields.com/resources/querying-relationship-fields. If all of this sounds like gibberish to you, let me know, and I'll add a more detailed answer.
