comment When oEmbed fails, display an alternative
I think, not sure, the API of oembed works about RESTful API. This API return an answer to the client like this one GET /photos/bees/2362225867/ HTTP/1.1 Host: flickr.com Accept: application/oembed+xml. Alternative is the default to get a error http code, like 406 Not Acceptable. This should be useful for return a message.

comment Getting a list of the published posts
Do you mean, you like posts, status draft about all categories in a time window of his published date? Or you will get the published and modified date from the post, after you have the post. At first you get a list of post, then have each post this data. You get this via additional function.

comment Changing Admin Menu Labels
Small hint. I think it is right and enough to return true for the hook custom_menu_order. - add_filter( 'custom_menu_order', '__return_true' ); The order comes from menu_order.

comment Admin: global $post empty
That is not easy to answer. Have you check with the Plugin Debug Objects? Also see this source AS example, very often I check the screen values - github.com/bueltge/Archive/blob/master/archive.php

Reduce the globals. Use the function get_current_screen(). You find inside the array of the result of this function the page, the post type and more. Small hint, easy to find with plugin "Debug Objects".

comment WordPress Plugin Boilerplate - add_action hook in static “activate” function
Your method activate() was init via the Register_activation_hook. This was fired only in activation oft the Plugin. Add the Source of this Methode in the constructor or method than run on init the class.

comment Auto remove empty values in array
Why do you usearray_map(). The functions for post meta, like delete_post_meta(), works with serialized data.

comment Which is the recommended method to transfer a wordpress site to wordpress Multisite?
At first create a new installation, switch to Multisite and then import the export file from the "old" single installation to one site of the network.
