comment How to change the location of admin notice in html without using Javascript?
This is the closest to controlling the placement. Wordpress supposedly does something internally to see where the <h*> tag is and places it there.

@iantsch Your answer is helpful but not what I intended. I want to control placement of the admin notice in the html. majick's answer helps me do that.

@Sumit I updated my answer. I just didn't want the focus to go away from the fact that I am asking about admin notices.

@sumit Sorry, I meant location as in the html on the page itself in a custom page.

comment Display admin notice only on main dashboard page
Note: the function call back will only work in php 5.3 and above so use a function reference if you run into trouble declare a function and reference it as 'my_custom_notice_function'

comment How to remove duplicate sub-menu name for top level menu items in a plugin?
I managed to do it in CSS but it's dirty and not a great solution. .toplevel_page_PLUGIN_NAME .wp-submenu .wp-first-item { display: none; }

comment How can I programmatically show a specific (template) page, like author.php?
Wordpress loads the author page based on the URL. You can create a specific file called author.php that will allow you to customise the look of the page. Take a look at this codex.wordpress.org/Template_Hierarchy#Author_display

In general the author.php file is a file meant to be displayed when a user accesses the author's page via url.

it's unclear what you would like to achieve. Can you maybe explain the purpose behind your request. Maybe in the expanded part explain: "I would like to make an author.php page appear if so an so... "

comment WP custom nav menu problem
@steveBeeSmart I wrote that code, if you can tell me how to customise the html that wp_nav_menu() is producing I'll take down that code and burn it :)
