I haven't been able to get this approach to work, after several days' work.

@Brian thanks so much, this is an excellent solution! I have a question though. Does the request from the third party app to the endpoint need to be made clientside? I've tried this locally: when I make the request directly in the browser I get a correct "is logged in" response from the endpoint, but when I do it from a PHP page I don't. I'm guessing I need to request the logged in status from the browser because the server side isn't aware of the status.

comment Plugin to require Twitter or Facebook login before posting a comment
Very good question! I am struggling to find a solution to the same requirement. It's not an unusual thing to want, yet WordPress comments fails to provide this functionality. You either have to open your comments to all comers, or do without social login.

comment How to provide social login at bottom of posts
This is a very good question! This is a weird choice WordPress offers - I just don't understand wny we can't have social login without opening comments to all comers. It makes WordPress comments pretty unusable for our site.

Uh did you come across any documenation of how to add another dropdown to the filters? I can only find stuff that deals with custom taxonomies, and I just want to add a bunch of links to edit.php.

Thanks David, bad news but good to know!

I've just realised this is a bad way to go about it, because that dropdown list corresponds to GET param "m", whereas to get Today or Yesterday I'd have to use the "day", "monthnum" and "year" params.
