You could also keep your page "awake" by polling it once every minute using cron or a service like pingdom.com/free/

WP 4.0 has added support for edit, just have to understand how to override it. Have a look at line 379 in phpcrossref.com/xref/wordpress/wp-includes/js/mce-view.js.html

Not sure if that's true :) If you look at the source code wp_remote_request() calls request() in class-http.php and the body array ($r['body']) is parsed for both POST and GET
