Have you tried using Advanced Custom Fields? It is THE most incredible plugin you will ever use for Custom Fields and once you have created your Custom Post Type, you have the option of switching off certain meta boxes.

Thanks Cybnet but I need for the client to be able to change the header banner which can only be done by setting that banner in a Page/Post as far as I am aware? I had started out with the search.php file and based my two-column template on this but then I have no control over the banner image?

How do I check that @Michael? Other than echoing out the output? I do see in the developer toolbar that Free State is wrapped in quotes like this "Free State"

Thanks Thyamarkos, I will look into Teleport. She's since requested that it also needs to be on a Tablet so that rules out Xampp :/
