comment All custom links suddenly lack href attributes
Also given that disabling JavaScript and reloading page has no effect it would seem unlikely that jQuery was the cause.

I will investigate this but the linked post references WP 4.5 and this happened prior to making that update. Thank you for the reply!

@NathanPowell Theme is called Gospel and was purchased by a previous developer via ThemeForest but the author is no longer on TF. We think we may have found their new company and are seeking the previous developer for the purchase id as theme author refuses all contact without purchase id.

@bueltge I'm not sure I follow what your comment means? The error in this case is originating in /wp-admin/includes/ajax-actions.php so it is not the plugin itself making this check.

@GregMcMullen because Gravatar is tied to email and many of them do not wish their email associated with the images they prefer for the site avatars. If Gravatar would let them pair just the one domain with the image they might be ok with that but would still rather these images be limited visibility only on the one site.

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately there end up being a number of pages involved in uploading an avatar. So while I can use $wp_roles->add_cap( 'author', 'upload_files' ); on the profile page the avatar upload invokes uploads.php which denies the user the upload.

comment Wordpress generated links - menus and home_url() - not using https despite settings
so the HTTPS module has a setting labeled "Any page that is not secured via Force SSL or URL Filters will be redirected to HTTP." When this is set to true you have to have edited the pages and posts and set them to Force SSL or - like it says - it redirects to HTTP. When this was set to false and saved the menus were set to the protocol of the page that was loaded.

Thanks. This affirms what I thought- that something is rotten in there. As soon as can will update to 4.0 but it's a new client and I'm still working on getting ftp, cp, mysql access and if it chokes on the updates there'll be hell to pay!
