Currently using wordpress for two purposes:

  1. Hosting a fairly traditional blog, albeit one with a great many individual bloggers (193 at the last count)

  2. Building an aggregation site with no blog or comment functions, but some simple CMS requirements

comment How can I version the main CSS file?
OK. I guess I was concerned that stylesheet_url might be used elsewhere, but there's really no reason for that, is there? There's also the fact that it would be nice to have some mechanism for automating the update to always use the most recent file version, but I'm just starting to expose flaws in my question now :)

"This is kind of inelegant, though" - yeah, particularly if I want to use a file named "style-1.css"! ;-)

Presumably, I would need to call that function from somewhere ... (and I assume the missing / is a mistake!)

I'll have a look into custom post types. The problem with custom fields, if I understand them correctly, is that, at worst, they're just plain text, and at best, they don't offer WYSIWYG editing.

Hmm... I'll take a look at the links, but I'm not entirely sure I've explained myself properly. Essentially, I need to work with the most 'atomic' piece of content possible; something that every other CMS I've used makes very easy. I've updated the question in an attempt to explain it better.
