I work at Automattic doing development and VIP support for WordPress.com. I've also written a ton of WordPress plugins (the most of anyone on WordPress.org last I looked).

@Upeksha: At the time this answer was written, those constants didn't exist. ;) You are correct though that now that they do, it would be better to use them.

I forgot to mention that you need to call switch_to_blog() before calling url_to_postid() as the function doesn't parse the domain only the path. I've updated my code. And no problem! :)

comment Large Uploads in WordPress
On a side note, WordPress.com has a 1 gigabyte upload limit and we commonly get files uploaded through the stock, default Flash uploader that are very, very large for our VideoPress video serving product.
