comment Are Wordpress Plugins essential?
I'm not saying they're not professionally done, some are quite excellent. I'm saying that there's an arms race going on over there for the most "features" added, and I've purposely avoided buying a theme I wanted because it simply had too much conflicting functionality with the site I was running. I wish some of them simply had the base templates and stylesheets, without the extra stuff.

Unless WP has modified their thumbnail stuff, you'll definitely want to rebuild your thumbnails with the plugin mentioned. You will literally pull your hair out wondering what is wrong if you don't.

bosco: Making me jealous of the images. I might go back and create an infographic myself :p

comment Are Wordpress Plugins essential?
This is a good question. In my experience, the first thing I do when taking over someone's site as webmaster is to audit their plugins and remove everything that isn't 100% essential. Nine times out of ten, no one notices a difference, except the site runs faster and there are less bugs.

YouTube videos don't need a plugin. They're embeddable in the default WP install. Have been for a long time.

Just because it was obvious what was wrong with the code doesn't make it a good question, or useful to other people.

You're right. In either case, the problem isn't where he's enqueuing it.

Sorry, I didn't test any of that code. You'll need to update the if statement accordingly.

comment Make change in media library affect images in published articles
As far as I know, nope. If it puts it inline you basically have to manually edit it. Which is dumb.

For the sidebar, just use a wp-query block. See answer below

You're simply mixing javascript and PHP without escaping the javascript. Either use a PHP HEREDOC or escape all of your apostrophes/quotes

Can you post the exact error? Seems like you're running into the jQuery noConflict mode. Change $('.toggleDiv').slideUp(options.speed, options.easing); into jQuery('.toggleDiv').slideUp(options.speed, options.easing); and see if that makes any difference

Wow. Shouldn't you be using new WP-Queries for everything? It would be a trillion times easier.

comment How to use custom post type APIs, but use a different db table
That last part makes sense about making sure to clean up stuff, but that should be a standard operating procedure for all WP plugins. Thanks

Wouldn't this function best be a pre_get_posts filter?

comment When should you use WP_Query vs query_posts() vs get_posts()?
The question was "When should you use... query_posts()" and according to the logic presented by that blog post and the comments above, the answer is likely never.

comment When should you use WP_Query vs query_posts() vs get_posts()?
There's a freaking awesome explanation of query_posts written by John James Jacoby on the developer.wordpress.com blog that blows all of these answers out of the water. The main point: query_posts doesn't modify the main loop at all, it replaces it after it has already run. The best way to modify the main loop is through a pre_get_posts filter. developer.wordpress.com/2012/05/14/…
