Post Formats allow for various types of posts to be styled or formatted based on their meaning.

Post Formats (introduced in WordPress 3.1) allow for conditional formatting to be applied based on the type of a post. For example, the status post format is designed to be used for short Twitter-like updates and might be displayed without a title. Another example would be having link posts use the linked URL as the anchor target for the post title (rather than the post's permalink).
