WordPress Development Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for WordPress developers and administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I am having a bit of a nightmare situation. I was given a testarea on a subdirectory of a friend's client server as a temporary favor in order to test my wordpress site. The path is as follows:

The problem is that I do not have access to either cpanel or PhpMyAdmin on their server and my friend's lack of any technical ability means that not only he cannot give me access to either but would not even know how to give me access/login etc.

All that I want to do is to put my site on a live host in order to test and work on it live. I have been trying in vain to find alternative ways to import my WordPress database but given my very restricted permissions, all that I can see and work on is this subdirectory.

I have tried downloading BigDump (Staggered MySQL Dump Importer v0.35b)and followed the instructions i.e. import sql dump file from (Local) PhpMyAdmin, modify database details in the bigdump.php file, upload it to dump/ directory on live folder, but I keep getting the following error:

Database connection failed due to Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock

Now, I believe there to be path issues about where MySQL is installed and so on the host but as I am working blind there is not beyond mydirectory I can see and I am growing tremendously frustrated as I am unable to even see my website just because of this stupid database.

Is it not possible to use this directory completely independently from the host's matrix to run a database on my website?
