My web sites have been hacked in the past, so I set up certain security features on each site like a firewall plugin, for instance. In fact, the week after I forgot to re-enable the firewall when doing some maintenance, I was hacked.
Now I need a solution with automatic backups should I continue to use my current firewall plugin. Wordpress Firewall 2 somehow blocks BackUpWordPress from using wp-cron.php (giving it a 403 error: forbidden), and I wonder how many other automatic things that are in the Wordpress core or plugins rely on the wp-cron.php file.
I believe it has something to do with an htaccess line to prevent queries from bots.
It works when I use the alternate cron method...
define( 'ALTERNATE_WP_CRON', true );
...but the URL's get screwy (like index.php?doing_wp_cron=1365275785.1255490779876708984375), so I'd like to avoid that if possible. Here is the error I received: "BackUpWordPress has detected a problem. wp-cron.php is returning a 403 Forbidden response which could mean cron jobs aren't getting fired properly. BackUpWordPress relies on wp-cron to run scheduled back ups. See the FAQ for more details." Problem also disappears when disabling the Firewall.
