WordPress Development Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for WordPress developers and administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Ive been trying to install wordpress network to run subdomain on my cPanel hosting and have tried multiple tutorials and suggested solutions to get the subdomains working.

I tried this one: http://wp.tutsplus.com/tutorials/wordpress-multisite-beyond-basics-essentials-and-domain-mapping/

It adds the wildcard DNS entry to advanced DNS manager but when I try to access my site to a subdomain it goes to Page not found.

Also tried adding the subdomain with * and pointed it to home directory, public_html and the wordpress network directory, didn't work.

There are many factors, like:

  • Your hosting platform should support the Wildcard DNS feature.
  • On some shared webhosts, the host has disabled Wordpress Network from running.
  • Mod_rewrite not working.

Thank Kash for replying, Wildcard DNS is enabled and i can add the subdomain with *.somedomain.com Also mod_rewrite is enabled and working with other wordpress installations on the server. Any ideas on how I can test if wordpress network is disabled on my hosting? –  Daniyal Mar 24 '13 at 16:47

You need to contact your hosting provider. –  Kash Mar 24 '13 at 16:49
