WordPress Answers is a question and answer site for WordPress developers and administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I can not find a fitting answer online, so I need to see all the pros in here for a favor. I am thinking about only allow user to edit partial of the email address when register, but I do not know if this could be achieved by using php or better to use javascript, or jQuery have a better option for it? For example, if the user choose an option say...I am from: USA. then the following email address, I want to only fix it to @hotmail.com, and the user can only edit whatever before that and he will not allow to edit it in the profile page neither.

Is there anyway I can achieve this?

Thank You Very Much!

That's a HORRIBLE idea. You will have tons of users who use an email address that'll be rejected by your validation. And trust me, nobody is going to create another email address just to fulfill some ridiculous requirement like that. In case what you actually intend to do is requiring people to use e.g. their college email address: They often suck so people might want to use them just to prove they are allowed to register but then switch to their own address after that. – ThiefMaster Mar 17 at 18:36
Javascript is useless for enforcing this kind of thing. I can get around that in seconds. And yes, this is a very bad idea. – s_ha_dum Mar 17 at 18:56
Really? I thought its a pretty good filtering process, since my site will be primarily for college students, not anyone in the public to perform its actions. – Adam Mar 17 at 20:22
But...is it proceed-able though? Since I feel no clue on how to even starts it.... – Adam Mar 17 at 20:23
