I have been installing lately w3 total cache on my wordpress site and today webmaster tools has been mailing an error by sitemap.xml crawling. Sitemap ist HTML. Is anybody experienced this issue with w3 total cache? If yes what would be the workaround?

Is sitemap.xml generated by w3 total cache? I have never used w3tc. Try calling www.yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml this should be an xml file but might be rewritten by .htaccess or anything else or maybe it does not even exist and 404.php will kick in and return html.
