WordPress Answers is a question and answer site for WordPress developers and administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

We have some links on the front page redirecting to PDFs or various links . On the end-user web browser, when I change [PDF1] to [PDF2], [PDF1] is still showing up, even weeks later. Also if I change a webpage, the old version sometimes still shows up over a week later.

Is there any way to have Wordpress force a refresh or prevent caching or something on the user-end so this doesn't happen?

I'm aware the solution is for end-users to clear cache or force refresh, but trying to give instruction on a public website we want customers to frequent for news updates doesn't always work. They expect to to just work. The higher-ups don't want to need website visitors to perform additional steps just to see an updated webpage.

This question is to vague as it applies to host configuration more than WordPress itself. Please clarify it with some details or it will be closed, thanks. – Wyck Oct 1 '12 at 21:26
I'm not sure exactly what you mean or what other information is required, which I'd be glad to offer. While I update the website, I'm also far from an expert. I guess best I can put it: mysite.com/calendar redirects to mysite.com/calendar1.pdf. If I update to mysite.com/calendar2.pdf, end-user still see the mysite.com/calendar1.pdf unless they refresh their cache, even weeks later. Beyond that, I'm not sure what else to offer in the question. – zealeus Oct 2 '12 at 13:31
Then you will have to ask your host or someone with more details on how the site woks. – Wyck Oct 2 '12 at 15:10
