WordPress Answers is a question and answer site for WordPress developers and administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Most of these questions seem to be about etsy scale sites, mine is for smaller scale sites.

I'm trying to set up a WordPress site for a finite number of vendors, all in different parts of the world.

Normally one could just use PayPal buy now buttons, but sometimes items have a matrix of variations that dictate the price.

Where is the first place to start when trying to find a solution to this problem?

Obviously you need an e-commerce solution. Most are free so you can test them in depth. You can ask or search in their support forums. Otherwise, search for other CMS/E-commerce solutions. – brasofilo Jul 30 '12 at 16:21
Maybe I totally misunderstand the wordpress section of stack exchange. I apologize. I have searched through the ecommerce solutions and the only ones that allow multiple vendors seem to be thousands of dollars in membership fees. It seems there must be some other way to do this. Perhaps multiple installations of a single ecommerce solution? I don't know. That's why I'm here. Thanks. – Luke Jul 30 '12 at 20:24

It's difficult to tell what is being asked here. This question is ambiguous, vague, incomplete, overly broad, or rhetorical and cannot be reasonably answered in its current form. For help clarifying this question so that it can be reopened, see the FAQ.

Multi vendor support is not a common requirement ... Think tax, sales laws, delivery options, terms of sale ... All these differ between countries.

Even apple uses different domains per country ie http://store.apple.com/us

Magento does have multivendor support and is probably way too expensive for your needs. Wordpress is probably still the baby here.

You should assess your needs along with legal requirements and then look at the solutions
