I do not want to upload content to amazonS3 yet. I know how great it is because every tutorial I read on protecting video uses it. However, is there a plugin that includes a video player that can do what these tutorials do with S3, but for wordpress's media library?

If not, is there a reason why this can't be done? It's odd how you can't protect your own local files with the same style of expiration links. I figured it'd be easier because you don't have to rely on an external host?

Thank you.

"protecting video" — you mean hiding the direct link to the video file? – its_me Jul 1 '12 at 14:33
Yes. I want to do expiration links. I don't want anyone to find the direct links to my videos. Sorry for not being specific. – Matt Jul 1 '12 at 18:41

Haven't tested it, but the following plugin/player uses a folder above the public server path to serve the videos.
Secure HTML5 Video Player

Other options, not WordPress related and off-topic to your question, are to use YouTube private or unlisted videos or a Vimeo premium account.
