I'm creating a web site for my family, a place where my relatives and I can share photos, share information about family trees, list some basic info about various family members and their contact info, have discussions about things, share videos, etc.

The main thing though I think will be photo albums, so I want something really slick and zippy and quick, beautiful and elegant, to display photos.

I need a way for all my relatives to create their own photo albums and upload their own photos.

Any thoughts? I'm open to buying a premium theme or plugin, and I'm open to non-Wordpress options too. Thanks!

This is not a WordPress based problem and its a subjective, open ended question not suited for WPSE. But please take a look at themeforest.net and codecanyon.net for Premium themes and plugins of which there are many (especially themes) designed for portfolio-type displays which would be suited to your cause. – userabuser May 10 '12 at 7:57

Look into Squarespace.com

There are a few things WordPress can do that they simply cannot. However, the service is maybe a hundred times easier to use for Aunt Suzie. Quite well done.
