While using WordPress to create a new blog post today, I noticed that the bandwidth on my host went up by several megabytes over the course of an hour. The bandwidth increased more while using the visual editor (vs. HTML). Is this behavior expected? If so, why does it happen? If not, how can it be prevented?

I should also note that my visual editor is very laggy, at least in Firefox. (HTML less so.)

After testing on Chrome, I feel like this might just be a Firefox issue. Anyone have similar experiences? – Archagon Feb 22 at 11:45

Did you upload any images? That's the most likely explanation for your usage going up. Otherwise, using the WYSIWYG editor shouldn't cause any noticeable additional traffic in itself. It loads some scripts and images, but it should do so only once.

The only way that I can see that the WYSIWYG editor itself could be causing this is that caching is broken somehow, and all the scripts and resources of the editor get loaded again every time. Check whether you have caching disabled in your browser, and possibly on server side as well.

No, no images, just text. – Archagon Feb 22 at 11:24
