How can I add an image field to BuddyPress Extended Profile Fields?

I'm creating a BuddyPress extended profile that requires and image field. Is there an existing plugin or technique that I could use to accomplish this?

If there is, does it manage it without editing core BuddyPress files?

This would be really helpful if it could be turned into a plugin.
