I'm trying to create a loop that only displays the post types: "photo" and "gallery".

If it's a gallery I would like to display only one of the images, preferably the first.

I'm a little confused because the codex says that the "standard" post format is really the absence of any declared format, but if I'm making a custom loop, and the user does not select a format, will standard posts get through?

Thanks very much.
