WordPress Development Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for WordPress developers and administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I am creating my own post type, here are my capabilities:

'capabilities' => array(
      'publish_posts'      => 'publish_review'

Basically, if I use this - no body can publish or send for review, not even an admin.

I have a custom user capability called "publish_review" which I set up using the plugin User Role Editor.

If I add:

'edit_post'         => 'edit_review',

To the capabilities and give an Admin access to the publish_review and edit_review capability they can Publish posts providing they have access to edit_review.

If I give an Author access to edit_review only, they can submit things for Review but cnanot publish them. They can ALSO edit anybody elses posts of this type.

What am I doing wrong?

I basically want to limit so that only Admin and Editors can publish this post type, and Authors and Contributors have to Send it for Review.

Are you only adding the one (or two) capabilities? Or adding you all available post caps to the cpt? –  alpipego Mar 13 '14 at 20:07
